Has anyone else noticed that some headphones require less work for your brain to interpret the music than others? Some headphones can be persuasive and let you easily realize their sound signature and full potential on a short demo, making the reproduced music seem complete and easy to put together. They can be great for unfocused, passive listening.

Other headphones seem to require more attention from the listener, and require more mental burn in to realize the sound. These headphones seem to be more mentally claustrophobic and often less musical, but are more analytical and great for monitoring and critical listening, where every last detail counts.

It seems like the headphone engineers either 1. decide how you should enjoy it or 2. teach you what is actually going on in the track. Ive personally never heard a headphone that has the best of both worlds, its usually one or the other, or too many compromises made.

Discuss.
