Well no not really...but check this out:

Pink Floyd The Wall Disc 2 Track 2 Is There Anybody Out There?

Please play it starting at around 1:24 in. What do you have here? If your a Megadeth die-hard like myself, your going to go holy crap, that sounds like:

Megadeth Count to Extinction Track 7 Countdown to Extinction

About 8s in and if you want it even closer, try 2:55 in.

I swear, a friend noticed it and then came to me for verification. I instantly realized what I was listening to when he played the Floyd stuff. Its odd because these two bands are in my top 5 of all time. Weird I never noticed it.

What da ya think?

I think you're gonna have to post some several second mp3 samples if you expect anyone to look into this simliarity.

I think its eerie I haven't made the connection before. Or maybe my new set of cans are making crazy!

I would like to state one is a lot faster than the other, but the melody is very similar. In fact, since this is the main theme in countdown, further down the song, during the mono about hunting....you can heaer the same theme even closer...let me see if I can get that as well...

Of course if the initial reaction is from everybody that I'm nuts, maybe I will just stop.

I agree. The Pink Floyd one sounds more like something you'd hear in a James Bond movie.

I'm guessing Trogdor isn't a musician, after all he is a dragon and would probably just burninate his instrument.

Well actually I played the Clarinet for 7 years. But I think they sound somewhat similar. I agree the progression is different, as is the speed but the overall feel to it is similar.

Hmmm, the Metallica reference is interesting as well. Anyway, had a couple of people listen to it and there were some in both boats ranging from they don't anything alike to is this the same sound remixed!

sorry don't hear it.

if you're going for overall feel, a much closer comparison would be Queensryche's "Silent Lucidity" and PF's "Comfortably Numb"

Boy these kinds of threads are annoying. The Dream Theater forums are simply filled with them. Yes, it's true, they even say themselves that they use their influences a lot. Pink Floyd is used a lot in other music in general, simply because it's easy to use, and it's good stuff. Now this example is actually pretty far off compared to how directly DT incorporates other artists at times, but you're right, the correlation is there. Now shut up and enjoy your music! There are 15 billion chord/melody combinations out there. Somebody's going to re-use one every once in a while.
