Are there any stand alone MD recorders?

As if i bought a Sharp Ds8, is there a stand alone recorder to record MDs.

Are you looking for a deck? You can get something like the Sony MDS-JE470 for around $150 to $170.

I have that model. Works great.

Yeah, I'm looking for a deck. Netmd is wanted, but not needed.

The Sony MDS-JE980 is the cheapest (I think) Net MD deck. I have the MDS-JB980 which is worth the slight extra for better facilities.

Well. My PC and my home stereo are in opposite sides of my apartment so I never considered a NetMD deck. I just use my deck for SP dubbing from my CD player.

But, that does look like a very nice deck.

Do NetMD decks have the same restrictions as the NetMD software? such as only able to record in LP2 (SP is renamed LP2)from the computer?


also can you record your dvd movies onto a deck? If you record with sync, does the individual tracks on the dvd carry onto the minidisc so your minidisc would be divided into chapters (tracks) like the dvd?

No, because sync needs the 1 or 2 second pause between CD tracks to insert track marks on the MD.

I'm not sure, but I think DVDs have SCMS, in which case 'NO COPY' or similar will flash in the display on the MD. NetMD decks do have the same restrictions, unfortunately.

That's moot if you use the analog connection (*is 90% sure*).

Yeah, I was assuming an optical line there, sorry. Analogue is 100% successful, 100% of the time, providing your equipment (cables, etc) are up to scratch.

oh, so what is the fastest speed a deck can generate an SP recording? Combo cd/minidisc decks can encode in SP faster than realtime right?

4x on the MXD-D40. My Panasonic micro also dubs at 4x in SP mode.

Unless the deck is a CD/MD combo model, all recordings will be done in realtime (NetMD aside, of course).
