I'm a huge fan of my old Technics SL-PD6 CD player, with its 1-bit MASH dac. Its sound is so much warmer, smoother, richer, and more colourful than any modern soundcard or mp3 player I've tried.

I'd really like to listen to music from my computer though. Is there any soundcard or USB dac (especially a DIY one) out there that might sound as warm and colourful as my Technics CD player?

Any help appreciated!

any decent dac will beat most mp3 players and onboard soundcards sound quality. Try the emu0404 usb. very decent dac with a pretty decent headphone jack to boot. If you can spend more, I hear the pico dac is great

I think that you kind of misunderstood the question. The OP asked about similiar DAC and/or soundcard that will be similiar in quality and sound signature to these that were used in the past in Technics CD players mostly. They used MASH 1-bit DACs.

All I was saying was that most fullsize cd players or dacs will most likely sound warmer and fuller than mp3 players and typical onboard sound. I had a technics mash player and it wasn't particularly warmer sounding than my other fullsize cd players I had during the time (late 80s)
