Maybe someone can help me out.

I just bought a Marantz 1070 amp.
The balance knob is broken off (which I thought was just a cosmetic issue), and on the phono input, there is only sound coming out of the left ear on my headphones.
When I plug my ipod into the Aux input, sound is fine in both ears out of the same headphone.
There is nothing wrong with the turntable or cables, as the same turntable works fine connected to my Sony receiver.

I suppose I'm looking for some advice. Am I able to use the Stereo option on this amp with my turntable, or is everything working fine and I need to use Mono only? Is this generally an easy/cheap fix... or should I try and get my money back?

How is your turntable connected to the amp exactly?  Post pictures of the jack ends because you may have a mono plug instead of a stereo plug.

Thanks for helping out.

The turntable (Dual CS 630Q) has a cord ending in Red &  White jacks, that go into the amp (Marantz 1070) left and right phono input.
I always assumed that when I connected the turntable to my Sony receiver (from the 90's) that it played in stereo, but could that be playing in mono? I'm playing a couple records now and can't really tell if it's in stereo.

Here's a pic. Need any other info?

If I understand you correctly there is a cable hard-wired into the turntable terminating into two RCA-looking plugs labeled red and white?  If you are using a separate cable that has a single stereo-looking jack that terminates into said red and white ends then the stereo end may be the culprit.

The only other thought I have is either one channel of the phono stage is done for or the balance control was set to one side or the other, but that is unlikely since you receive stereo out of the new amp with the other inputs.  Keep us posted if you find a fix.

yes, there is a cable hard wired from the turntable terminating in a red and white (L&R) RCA looking plugs.
I'll start by saying I don't know much about amps.
The Marantz has a knob switching between stereo and mono. when my ipod is plugged in to the AUX, both the stereo and mono options work fine. When the turntable is plugged in, there is no sound in the left headphone for the stereo option (mono works fine). also, the balance switch is broken. so i'm assuming that one channel in the phono stage is broken?

I just want to make sure that i'm not overlooking something stupid before I call the guy who sold me the amp for a refund. It's not like turntables only produce mono is it? I should be able to get stereo sound?

Try plugging in the left channel of the turntable into the right channel on your amp. This should tell you whether or not it is your turntable or your amp.
