Hey there. I've heard great things about the Marantz 1070 receiver as a headphone amp and just found out that my Dad has an old one that I can get when I go home.
I was just wondering if anyone has used this receiver or a similar Marantz to power speakers as well. I have a set of Paradigm Atoms and would be running these from the Marantz.
Anyone have any experience with this amp and HD 580's?

I have a vintage Marantz 2270 reciever at home that I occasionally use to power my grado SR125's. Normally it's running a set of speakers off the main output however.

It's a very warm sound, good detail and they are very conservatively rated. The marantz amps will provide louder and clearer sound than most current amps with twice the specs (on paper). All I can say is hook them up and see how you like it. I'm extremely pleased with mine, but you may like a more analytical and neutral sound, or it just may clas with the paradigm speakers.

The worst is you waste an hour setting things up and a couple hours listening to your favourite music.

The Marantz 1070 is an integrated amplifier not a receiver. It works quite well as a headphone amplifier with HD-580 and HD-600 phones.

The 1070 amplifier is rated at 35 watts per channel RMS @ 8 ohms, but actual power of this amplifier is more than 50 watts @ 8 ohms and just over 60 watts @ 4 ohms.

The sound is very smooth and tubelike with HD-600 phones. I have never used this amplifier with speakers but it should sound very good.
