I just bought an airsoft gun today at Dick's sporting goods. For those who don't know, airsoft is like paintball, only with BBs.

I bought a KWC Taurus PT-92 (non hop-up model), and it's so cool! My parents would never let me have a BB gun when I was small, but they finally let me buy one and the thing is ridiculous. I just messed around with it for a few minutes today, but it was really fun.

BTW, it looks exactly like the real PT-92 except for the orange tip, the absence of the PT-92 model name on the side (still has the Taurus name and stuff), and the plastic construction. It weighs (I believe) about 3/4 lb, pretty cool.

Anyone else used airsoft guns before? Do share!

I think you might be referring to the Beretta 92. I used to own a Marui M4A1 AEG and a few pistols, gas and spring. Never got the chance to milsim, so i sold my stuff, but it can definately be a good time. Just stay out of games that lack muzzle velocity limits - that's bad juju.

Oh, wear goggles too. Although, it's been reported that the loss of a sense enhances all others (such that extra attention can and must be paid to them), so i guess losing your eyesight might just be the ultimate tweak

What's the difference between the taiwanese ones and the japanese one's besides the price?
I was always interested in the gas blowback one's.
One thing I did try was the Aquila colibri powderless .22lr cartridges for a CZ75 conversion. sounded like openning a soda can. But, it doesn't cycle the action like a gas blowback airsoft does.

Taurus is a company that makes firearms very similar to those manufactured by Beretta. It's the same as how Fabrique-Nationale makes guns that are the spitting image of Browning pistols.

Taurus made those model 92 copies under official license from Beretta, actually.

No, it is a Taurus PT-92, you can look it up on google if you like. I didn't really know anything about the guns before I went to the store, and the sales guy said the one I bought was good. After researching for a couple minutes on the net, it appears I should have bought the Desert Eagle .50AF model by KWC instead, but oh well. The PT-92 seems well received as well, so I'll just take what I have. Anyway, I've read that for simple target shooting a non hop-up gun is better, so maybe I made the right decision after all (the Desert Eagle has hop-up I think), as I won't be doing any tactical simulation stuff.

Anyway, I had a blast for the few minutes there was still any daylight. This thing is really easy to use, and I've always liked anything to do with target shooting. Shooting tomatoes with a .22 was one of the more entertaining things I've done. Man that was fun. Neither I or my parents would want to have a real gun around the house though, and I'd have to take it to the shooting range, so this is the next best thing. I'd love to have a nice BB rifle, but my parents wouldn't go for that; they're afraid I'll hurt myself or someone else. Anyone remember A Christmas Story? "You'll shoot your eye out!"

Taiwanese guns use japanese molds and aren't as mechanically sound. Feel free to peruse wargameclub, it's a nice timesuck.

Blowbacks are nice. Not much worth at range, but they look good if you've got a decent tactical vest etc.

Hadn't heard of them, sorry. Also hadn't seen FN's browning line - cool. I used to be fairly versed in my arms, but i haven't pursued it in a while.

Hop up has won me a good many springer scrims. Keeps it flat at range. Think gravity in reverse. If the hopup is poorly calibrated it will make the round rise exponentially (to a degree). But you're right, anything under 30ft won't matter.

I attend xavier university and my whole dorm hall has these guns. The whole floor is a battlezone. I must admit though, it has brought some life to dorm living.lol

Beretta had a plant in Brazil. The locals bought it... worked out a licensing deal with Beretta, and renamed the gun Taurus. I've got a 92 with fixed sights. They and Ruger have one of the best customer service departments around. I sent mine in to get a part on my barrel replaced. When it got back not only had they fixed it they re-blued a few areas of wear & tear.

I have a miniature electric full automatic MP5. Right now I am looking for a sniper rifle. Any ideas?

I got hooked into these things before. I blew about $4000 going with 3 guns and all the gears and upgrades. We have an airsoft league here before composed of about 60 people and we go to other cities and provinces once in a while to compete against other airsoft clubs. A totally cool hobby and you get to experience a totally different kind of andrenalin rush.

We use highly upgraded guns here using 300% springs and .3 gram ammo pellets. Needless you say, if you get sprayed by one of these, you WILL cry!

I have 2 Desert Eagles (a gas-blowback one and a spring-powered one), but I don't think either works (the gas one due to lack of maintenance, the spring one is broken).

I remember having scrims in the dorms, it was lots of fun (I used a spring-powered MP5; it now belongs to my sister). One of the student staff once saw us and tried to report us, but luckily she was stopped by another staff member who played airsoft with us

During one incident, a guy tried to hide behind a curtain but was seen and the contents of an AK-47 and P90 (both full auto with large magazines; at least 200 rounds) were emptied into him through the curtain...ouch. We also tried filming a movie towards the end of the year involving lots of airsoft guns and a crime story, but we ran out of time.

Air Guns are a blast. Along the same lines me and my nephew dug up our crosman 760,s i bought when he was a kid, got a couple scopes, and have been having a blast downloading targets and having competitions. Hell 10 meter air gun is an olympic sport. Of course there guns are a little better than ours

We actually set up a range in the basement (using all precautions of course) and dont even have to go out in the cold.
