Could you make some comparisons with market CDPs and name their price range as well to understand how well the M-audio AP delta 24/96 sounds?

DOes it sound like a $150 a $200 or $300 or what CDP?

Is there any reason you are choosing AP 24/96? The emu 0404 would be better sounding unit.

the reason is a trade.

if this card is soundwise as good as an Audigy 2 then I will stay away from it. I do not need another mediocre card.

It's an ok sounding card but I rather sell either of those cards and just get an emu 0404. When I say ok I mean the AP 24/96 maynot be "offensive" like the Audigy2 but it doesn't have the detail as the better emu cards.

Audigy2's treble is harsh to me. On the lower end of any source even CD/DVD pllayers, I find there are players which are harsh and those that are smooth which I what I call non offensive. I think those cheap players which people like are the non offensive ones. I think that's more important than having a little bit more detail because to me harshness is annoying.

So AP24/96 is a smoother sounding source and more acceptable than Audigy series to me but overall quality wise it's outclassed by emu 0404.

to a $150 SONY to a $300 CDP , $500 what do you think?

I (and possibly some others) can´t answer this question for simple reasons:

A.) There are for sure CD-Players for 4000€ playing less good than some for 500€.
B.) I even have big difficulties to hear the different quality of the 0404 and the AP2496 on my system (PC-> T+A PA1530R -> B&W 805).

To give at least answer:
My old Teac-CD-player with superiour drive but less good DAC sounds worse than my AP2496 with my PC. I would say the AP can compare to some few years old player, but not to high-fidelity new CD-Player.
