I already have the Grado 60i. I love them a lot. I am looking forward to upgrade them.
I like grado's sound signature. bright and punchy. though the punch is enough on the 60i,  i don't them punchy enough for my taste.
I am not a fan of sub bass because what i listen to is mostly rock and acoustic.
I also bought the HD 598. they were a bit punchier than the 60i. but the highs weren't bright for my taste. 
I have a budget of 300$
I am looking at the shure srh 940.
are they exactly what i want?

You can try contacting Mr. Bruce @fleasbaby his a nice guy to talk to I am sure he charge pretty low, I'm far away from him, and yet, the price he gave me is pretty low compared to some others.

what amp/dac you have ? have you tried dt990pro / 880pro ?

If you'll be using some extra amplification DT990s 250 Ohm are the way to go! If not, you should consider Shure Srh840.

If you're happy with the Grado punch, impact and dynamics... stick with it.  They're the only headphones that do it that way.  EQ adjustments go a long way with Grados.  A slight 2-3 db boost below 80Hz on that 60i could be just what you need.  I frequently boost ~32Hz by ~3 db on my itunes EQ, it really helps fill in the lowest octave on my RS1.
 
What is your source?  if its bass-shy, then you'll want to address that right away.  I had an old Technics CD deck that was really bright, and I have an old Magnavox PCDP thats really bright too.

I agree with both lin and kramer. Nothing is quite like the grado sound.

The SRH-940 is a good headphone. Airy and wide in soundstage but lacks impact and punch if thats what you need IMO

Shures Srh 840 are the ones to look at if you want punchy midbass and detailed treble.

Grado 325's...if you want bright!

Brightness most to least: 325, 80, 225, 60, 125. SRH940 is closest to 225, but it has painfully hot moments that I don't hear with the Grados.
 
I recommend 80i with an aftermarket headband unless you want to go crazy with, ugh, 325is.
