I have weaned myself a long time ago from headfi when I got my lovely Pico DAC/AMP and my Audio-Technica Esw10jpn and my Fischer Audio FA-002W 200-Ohm Edition Headphones.

However, my Pico DAC/amp got lost last month. I need a new AMP/DAC for my laptop.
I loved the colorization my old Pico/DAC; it really did was a tube-like experience as people say. I may buy another one merely for that coloring again.

What are the current popular models at the moment as DAC/AMPs? Are those portable player devices by HiFiMan and Astell & Kern the current popular DAC/Amps at the moment?

Or are their better portable things out there?

Wow, nice practical suggestions. Thanks!

I just discovered on the hype going on about that Chord Hugo; that is another option.

yes, but less "portable" (IMHO) and price seems twice the ALO or Cypher Labs.

BTW, the ALO MK3+ has a bass control button, to actually boost basses to adequate taste.

For my T5P and my ears, 40% is good enough...
