Looking for a good CD Player to go on my nightstand

Right now I have some Sony PCDP (D-NE10 I think) that is hooked up via line-out to an Airhead amp. I want to replace this with an at-home CD player that I can hook up my Senn 595s to. I basically want it to sit next to the bed. I'd also like to have the buttons on the actual unit be lit up so I can see the "next track" button (etc) in the dark.

My main complaint now is that I have too many wires. I have my headphones going into an amp, which goes into the remote, and then goes into the CD player. I am also forced to use the remote because the CD player I have doesn't have any light up buttons or screen on the actual unit so I can never tell what I'm doing if I'm in the dark. So preferably I would like something that cleans up the clutter with only my headphones running into the unit, and have buttons that I can navigate in the dark.

As of right now, I don't know what I want my price range to be. I do want to be as cheap as possible, but I definitely want it to sound as good, if not better, than the D-NE10 line-out w/amp that I have now. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks.

Finding a CDplayer with a headphone socket that beats a dedicated headphone amp will be difficult. You could go for something like the Shanling CDT-1000 which has a separate tube headphone amp circuit and is gorgeous to boot, but I doubt the end result will fit the "cheap as possible" price range.

Er, that is a bit more than I was expecting. Haha. What about a unit with a line out that I could attach my headphone Amp to? I would still still have wires, but the main reason for wanting to leave my current setup is also because I can't tell what I'm doing in the dark without the remote.

I've got a Phillips DVP642 that I use, I also have a Number Cruncher 203.2 DAC and overall is a good low-budget setup. You can pick up the combo for about $100

You could look for an old Denon CD-Player. My Denon DCD-1100 from Circa 1985 has a headphone jack with a volume control and it sounds very good.

Given you already have headphone amp, I would recommend the Sony SCD-CE595 SACD/CD changer. It will certainly sound better than the Sony PCDP and if you ever decide to get into SACD, you can do that too. SACD on this player will take you beyond CD performance. There's a thread about the refurbished Sony player and recent posts have a link for a $60.00 price on a website.

How would I hook up my amp to the Sony SCD-CE595? My amp doesn't have an optical in or anything. It just has a ... regular analog input (I guess that's what it's called, but for a line-in that's not an optical cable). I looked at a few pics of the Sony SCD-CE595, but didn't really see where to plug my amp into. Sorry for the newbie questions!
