I have z680's and the asus k8v deluxe mobo with 6 channel onboard sound and I am using the optical out from this.
However, I have some files which are encoded in DD and when I view these the decoder will never switch to DD mode as it usually does with a dvd, even if I select the audio source as 5.1 in VLC player.
I have also noticed that if I view a DVD within WMP10 that it will have a DD logo on the interface, yet the decoder unit will not switch to the DD mode. This isn't too much of a problem as I mainly use PowerDVD which works fine, but I'm just not sure if there is a way that I can get my files with AC3 sound to work properly...
Any software ideas, or would a dedicated sound card help?
I found http://winampac3.sourceforge.net/
This is an spdif passthrough plugin for winamp. im not at my pc at the moment so wont be able to try it. is this what I would need?
