A penguinamp.com Caffeine Pro is a good match for Livewires, and so is the Meier Headsix, the two amps sound similar. In my case I sold my Caffeine and kept the Meier because I didn't need two amps so similar. They are both in your price range.

Money from Headsix sales goes to help fund head-fi http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/hea...action-261529/ while the builder of the Penguin amps did rip off a design by Meier last year and had to recall all his Headphonia amps to make amends. So, it's up to you where you want your money to go.

The X5 sounds lovely right out of the headphone output.

The line-out of the X5 also sounds noticeably worse than the headphone out.

I would go with no amp in your situation.

The Livewires can't be more than 20 ohms so if you have a decent source SQ you shouldn't need an amp at all and if you LOD all your music better be the same kind or you'll start missing the EQ for different types of music.

I'm liking my Hearyourself.com c-3 IEM's (16ohms) more and more without an Amp. and as you can see by my signature, I have many different Micro amps.

a little change dropped by.

westones 3 and um56 are on the way.

but the question remains the same.

but you head-fiers think that amp won't do much good to my gear [if it will eventually].

so i should give it up? if that is your opinion that is what i'll do

p.s. somebody told me that rsa mustang is great with westone 3 :p

thanx for help

it's a hard audio world out there....

If you have a line out that sounds better than headphone out, then an amp will improve the sound using the line out to feed the amp. You don't need the amp just to amplify the headphone out with Livewires.

headphone out is sweet when it comes to comparing it with line out which is a kind of disaster in my iriver x5l.
