Another fun list from Pitchfork.

... a virtual flip through the used bins of your local record store.

i really like sebadoh and luna (their live album is to die for). i met rob dickinson from catherine wheel and he was really cool so i bought one of their albums, have been meaning to get more.

no alternative has my favorite nirvana song of all time (verse chorus verse), as well as the best version of "sexual healing" ever in my opinion.

funny how the only rem album i actually like is monster, and that's basically just for crush with eyeliner.

heh a fun read, and i swear i've seen at least half of those in my local cd store before, for better or for worse.

As a die-hard cutout junkie since the LP days, that list depressed me for two reasons:

1) I'm getting so out of touch that I didn't even recognize one title until #30 (counting backwards) and

2) The local chain of used/cutouts folded recently, leaving only isolated stores that sell them around here.

I hate to admit it, but I knew what #1 was before reading the article; there's at least 5-10 copies of it at the local used cd shop. I would say that #5 is really #2 on my list if you exclude the Bel Biv Devoe, and Michael Bolton stuff :-). It was a nice read that list. I couldn't help but get a little nostalgic for the mid-nineties American MTV rock for a minute there.

btw, The reviewer got it right about the Mercury Rev cds: Yerself... has the perfect vibe for me.

It's hard to remember Jesus Jones' Doubt once existed outside the cutout bin.

Best deal I ever got was $1.99 for an X's Unclogged promo. It sounded so good out of a fake Grundig wooden radio a few Christmases back.

Meh, I like a lot of those albums: Come Clean, the Cop Shoot Cop one...how can they say they needed a vocalist? Todd A. is like one of my favourite vocalists ever.

yes, that writer was pretty hard on Cop Shoot Cop, but one thing I will say about them, their albums were decent, but never lived up to their awesome live show.. yes, the guy who wrote about Cop Shoot Cop got it all wrong. Other than that, I found the list highly amusing.

I couldn't tell if the one writer was going to slam Rev's BOCES or praise it, I'm glad it turned out to be the latter. There's a lot of johnny-come-lately Mercury Rev fans though that just don't get BOCES, but that's ok with me.. Actually though, I was surprised, because that's one album I almost NEVER see used.

As a Melvins fan, I feel their work is quite polarizing, with some fans loving some albums, and other fans hating the same ones. I think Stag is a tedious listen, as was Honky. The Melvins have a VERY spotty song writing history, which is why they will never really get their due as truly great rock artists, but it is worth wading through their music to find the gems.

P.S. Though I agree in principle that Sugar's Beaster EP is good, it just didn't hold up to repeat listenings for me. The recording doesn't flow together well enough and feels a little jarring.
