Hiya all, I fully understand and use the benefits of line out but I do have a little science question. How is the player (DX50 in my case) still able to change the volume even tho the amp is bypassed? My iPods dont allow the volume to be changed with a LOD, is this an apple specific thing? Just curious

I guess the "256-step digital volume control" is wired before any amp(s).

The 256-step volume control is controlled right at the DAC, so essentially you have an amp running at the same amplification, and all you're doing is changing the input volume before the DAC. To simplify things, you can think of the amp as a fixed multiplier, and its the input signal that changes in amplitude.

Hope that helps! I too have a DX50 =)
