Then all he would get is a boost of volume and no boost in sound quality.

My Archos Studio 10 has a line out. I use it with my Airhead, Supermini V4 and soon my custom made META42! The sound is very nice, although I still prefer my PCDP.

do a search for super mini and ipod on all both related sections (phones, & portable audio).... i remember reading a few threads about people using the supermini with the ipod. I remember reading about how they did notice a change in sound. You won't get line-out quality, but it'll still improve the sound a bit.

I'll test my headphone out w/ and w/o my cha-47 right now.....

Ok, there's still a difference between amped & unamped headphone out. It doesn't compare to the line-out, but the cha-47 does improve the sound of the NJB3's headphone out.

as for ipod vs njb3, i've only heard the ipod once long before i got my nomad. It was for a brief period and it was out of the ipod buds, so i can't really help you there. My roommate has an ipod and maybe later i can have a response on unamped ipod vs njb3.

Many thanks for the post. I just need to know I have not wasted my money. Although it has no line out, I am leaning towards the I Pod -> CHA47 -> Grado SR 80's or 125's set up. What do you think..??

to tell you the truth, i have not had the chance to listen to grados yet.... i went to the so-cal meet and nobody took them along, and I haven't seen any stores in my area that carry them.

If your priority is truly sound, i think the jukebox would be in your best interests. Maybe later this week, when finals are over, I can A/B my NJB3 to an Ipod amped & unamped. I'd sure like to hear the differences for myself.

When I had them I didn't find that the case. All in all I thought that they were essentially the same.

The ipod sounds pretty good, especially for a portable. It is capable of quite a bit of power, but it runs out of voltage on the high impedence cans (runs out of knob before clipping, though). I still prefer the sound straight out of the headphone output to adding another component to the loop. I do wish that it had a line out, as well as a digital out.

btw, I am listening to the poid connected straight to the DT770s right now. 50% on the volume control is quite sufficient, even with the audible background rumble in my office.

don't know where you've heard that one, the jukebox3 is pretty much accepted to have the better quality headphone out
