I had a minidisc Sony MZ-N505 and I really enjoyed it for a long time, but now I would like to have a change
smily_headphones1.gif

I'm going to buy a iRiver iFP899 and Sony Mdr-ex71sl. Is this a good choice?
I was thinking about Creative MuVo N200 and Micro Zen too.
Maybe I'll tell what I want to do with this stuff
smily_headphones1.gif

So, I'd like to go for a walk with my new mp3, with a portable device in my "jeans-pocket" (like I used to with MZ-N505), ride a bike, in a gym, in the school, while travelling by bus, but also I like to listen to music at home. My type of music? It's very hard to define, because I listen almolst everything (which doesn't meen that I listen to what's "on the top of the list"), expect Pop, Rap, Hip-Hop. So there will be: classic, rock, blues, instrumental rock, metal, but also techno and hardcore

I don't know what's the diffrence beetwen those three portable devices, expect of the memory.
As I said, I think I buy iRiver. MuVo N200 seems to be almost the same as iRiver, but... ? and Micro Zen, I could think about buying it if I was sure (I'll buy online) that it will fit my jeans pocket.
So, wheres the diffrences? In quality? In everyday use? Tell me your opinions, I'll be glad to hear them!

Cya!
Adam

PS. I'm new, so hello to everyone

Compared to an MZ-N505, pretty much any Microdrive or flash based player is going to be smaller. The Zen Micro might be a tad longer than the N505, but it's thinner. The flash players you named are at least half the size of the N505, maybe less. The Micro is also pretty curvy and should slide into a jeans pocket fairly easily.

Out of your portable audio choices I would unequivocally recommend the Zen Micro, unless I could somehow persuade you to buy an iPod Mini.

Eh, the Micro's not terrible, but I listened to all 3 of the major microdrive players and I felt that both the Mini and the Rio Carbon pwned the Micro in terms of really everything from sound quality to aesthetics. Actually kinda liked the Carbon's sound better, but the shape kinda turned me off and well, it's not pink. ^^ Also, I wanted AAC compatibility. (Had to do something with all the Nero AAC tracks I have laying around).

As for the buds, I would not recommend the EX71s at all. Bloated bass, shrill highs, nonexistent mids... these things take the cake. For the same price you can get the Sharp MD33, which are nearly identical in size, fit and general physical design. Except they actually sound decent. Audiocubes and Bluetin carries the MD33. Also, for not much more you can bag the Shure E2cs, which is fine as long as your player has a parametric EQ to prevent them from sounding like automatic sound-murking devices. The silicones are the best tips for the E2cs, IMO, despite initial comfort issues. They soften up after use and you'll get used to them. The foamies are more comfy and isolate more but they are automatic sound-murking multipliers, making the already dark and muddy sound even more dark and muddy. But the E2c loves to be EQed, so you can really get ANY sound you want out of these if you try hard enough. This is true of nearly all Shure phones.

There are lots of other phones out there, as well, but the price tends to go up... and up... and up... and soon you'll understand what I meant with my first paragraph and be wondering what happened to all your money...

thanks for the qucik replay!
i see you have completly skipped the flash portables
smily_headphones1.gif
are they really so bad? what's the point?
so, if i'm able to have my micro zen in my pocket, I should start to think about it more seriously

They aren't bad at all, I just have very little experience with them personally. Too little space. Likewise with the full sized HDD players; too MUCH space. The microdrive players suit me perfectly. Since your used to MD, you are used to being able to carry a stack of MDs around with ya; flash players may not give you the space you really need without having to return to the computer a lot. Trust me, I've had my iPod Mini for about four months now and I still haven't filled it up past the 2/3rd mark. And the Micro has 5 GB of space, not 4 like my iPod does.

The flash players are also somewhat usage specific. You trade sound quality, output power and storage capacity for a design without moving parts; i.e. perfect for workout or athletic activities.

And the Zen Micro will fit in MY pockets, which are the little shallow mostly ornamental pockets of girly stretch denims, so they should definitely fit in your nice, deep man-jean pockets.

shes so cute only using 2/3 of an ipod mini :O

i keep on avg 15 gigs of music on my h120, i leave 5 free for portable hdd (5 fits the avg dvd rip file). Now i dont need 15 gigs at all, but im not using the recommended 128k files, most of mine are -api or 500 ogg its enough files, roughly 1500-2000 depending on what i have....i do this because i make less trips to comp to load it, and keep space free.

If i had a h10, zen mirco, or mini, i could get by just fine, just have to load it a bit more often. but even with a 1gig or 2 gig flash player i couldnt get by. plus the cost of a good 1gig flash player compared per gig is not worth it too me. some people with small mp3 collections get by just fine im sure btu ive got mroe then any current dap will hold.

It all comes down to preference.

ok, I'll ask if they have a yellow zen
smily_headphones1.gif

I'll have problems with buying those things:
-yellow remote controll
-can for the zen, what's the point? why everyone is putting their zens into cans?
smily_headphones1.gif

-sharp md33,

all of these t aren't accessible in Poland

thanks scoropio for your review, but I think it's subiective, which doesn't meen bad
smily_headphones1.gif

hmm... I need to buy some better earphones, you said sharp hp-md33s will be what I need, but they aren't available in my country, I didn't see them anywhere in Europe
smily_headphones1.gif

so I could order them by www.audiocubes.com but it would cost me $53 with shipping. is it worth it?
because I could order Sony MDR-EX71SL by www.ebay.de and it would cost me cheaper. is there really a diffrence between those two earphones? if so, maybe I'll buy sharp, but I'm sure yet.
PS. As I said before, I live in Poland, but we don't have this models here
PS2. Or maybe you know a cheaper online shop where I could buy sharp hp-md33s? of course with shipping behind the ocean
