Been demoing LCD-X with my new Audio-GD NFB-11.28.
I find it really great bass, but rolled off treble (almost like I'm hearing the sound recessed a bit).
I'm curious how the sound would compare to the Focal Clear?
I've owned both. Got rid of the X because I eventually couldn't stand the weight with so many other great-sounding, LIGHT options available. I miss the sound, though.
Currently own the Clear and really can't see myself parting with them. They're amazingly versatile with genres, and, while not light, are significantly more comfortable than the X. The bass is not in the same league as the Audeze, but it's certainly no slouch either. I'd say the Clear has the best (or my favorite) frequency response of any headphone I've ever owned.
In imaging and soundstage, they're about equal, but I'd definitely say the Clear reigns in resolution.
Switching to the Clear, you will find a lot less bass and a lot more treble. The LCD-X is a dark headphone with meaty bass. The Clear is more balanced and also a lot comfortable due to weight if that's important to you. The Clear overall I would say is more detailed and even.

Would either of you have any experience with the Noble Encore (or Kaiser) sound?
That's what I'm trying to replicate but with better imaging and soundstage, but that level of detail would be great.
You know, the first time I heard the LCD-X I knew it wasn't that detailed, but I was just so enamoured with the tightness and depth of the bass that when I started listening more I can really tell a big contrast with the Encores.
Don't get me wrong, it's still really sweet sounding but I often wish for a bit more detail.
I'm wondering if it's worth returning the LCD-X (still in 30 day window) and grabbing the Clear. The other factor is the Clear is $500+tax more for me. Would you guys switch?

Are they more stable than the LCD-X on your head?
I got the new carbon fiber LCD-X band and it's pretty good, but I wouldn't want to head bang without them dropping dead right off me.

If you can deal with the comfort and you really like the bass presentation, I would keep the LCD-X. Also, apparently the Elex on Massdrop has a better frequency response than the Clear and sounds better for cheaper, but I haven't heard it yet.

With Clears available for $990, and Elex available for $599, and ‘open box’ lcd-x available for $999 this becomes a tougher question, especially when they are final sale and no chance to try before committing. I’d like to move up from my HD600/650 and Sundara, but hard to know which trigger to pull. I tried the Ananda at $699, but found it too polite to be satisfying long term. I’m assuming any of the Clear, Elex or LCD-X would do better in the dynamics department, no?
The problem with asking about the the LCD-X is you don't know if the person is giving their opinion on the new revision, or an older one with memory foam pads.
I have compared the Focal Clear Mg and the LCD-X 2021 and ultimately ended up going with the LCD-X.
The Clear Mg is wonderful, especially when EQ’d, and certainly much lighter than the Audeze.
But I just preferred the depth and tonality of sound out of the LCD-X. I think the slightly subdued treble tuning was more to my tastes on the LCD-X than on the Clear Mg.
I wrote more thoughts in a review on the LCD-X, in the review section of Head-Fi.

I’ve done EQ on both headphones. Ultimately I actually liked the tonality of the LCD-X with just a simple bass boost and a little cut above 12K. That ‘Audeze dip’ is actually really nice to my ears for most songs.
There’s a few songs where oratory’s EQ profile is a better match.
I don’t believe the Reveal plug-in has been updated for the 2021 X yet.
