I’ve used Airpods Pro since the first version and off and on since then, now on my 3rd set of the Airpods Pro 2 after trying alternatives and then always eventually coming back for the convenience. One thing that always bugged me was the way they sound, somehow flat and neutral, kind of lifeless.
I mostly listen to EDM and with the Electronic EQ preset they sounded better but still not inspiring and because of this I tended to mostly listen to podcasts rather than music.
Similarly with eartips I’ve tried loads of aftermarket ones for the APP2 including Comply, Spinfit, Foam Masters, several different types of Azla and a couple of other lesser-known brands, always eventually returning to the OEM silicone tips.
Then recently a new brand caught my eye on Amazon. Keybudz Hyperfoam, supposedly tuned with the help of an acoustic engineer. I’ve never liked foam tips, they always seemed to ruin both the sound and the noise isolation for me somehow, but these looked interesting - very wide bore and the inner core made to flex for extra comfort. The best aftermarket tips I found for the B&W Pi7 S2 were the JVC Spiral Dot++, also wide bore.
So I gave them a go and I’m stunned. Music has never sounded so good on Airpods. Noise isolation also seems improved (although not by a lot) and they're very comfortable but sound seems significantly better - bass is fuller, vocals are more prominent but not overbearing, everything feels more smooth and rich.
Has anyone else tried these? I’m starting to wonder if this is just confirmation bias as I can’t believe they’ve made such a difference to the sound, it's like having a new pair of headphones.
