Hello everyone,

I wanted to talk here briefly about one of the three best current planar headphones on the market (with the JPS Abyss and the Hifiman Susvara), the Kennerton Thror, new flagship of the brand Kennerton.
It's not me who says it, but another head-Fi member: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new...-fischer-at-ifa.732814/page-133#post-14770870

kennerton-thror-2.jpg

I am the proud owner of the first Kennerton Thror, product in series (THR001) made of bog oak wood, and accompanied below on the photo of a beautiful Viva Egoista 2A3 tube amplifier from orange color Lamborghini: the association is splendid. :)

The Kennerton Thror replaces the Odin MK1 and mk2 as flagship of the brand. These last planar headphones are no longer produced, but replace with an improved version of the Odin mk2, the Odin Thridi (mk3) (more technical) which shares some of the characteristics, both of Odin mk2 and Thror, for both drivers and sound.

High-tech Kennerton Thror drivers with a lightweight fiber carbon frame ; powerful symmetrical semicircular Neodym magnets (2 x 5 bars per drivers) ; high-tech and lightweight (very fast) honeycomb Kapton membrane.

The Kennerton Thror is an easy-to-amplify headphone because of its high sensitivity (100 dB / mW and its constant impedance of 42 Ohm).
However you have to give it the best in amplification to obtain it the whole quintessence of the sound, especially a very good tube amplifier delivering at least 1 Watt on the load of 40 Ohm.

One of Kennerton's particularities concerning their Planar headphones (Odin mk2, Thridi and Thror) is the possibility of personalizing your headphones with the purchase of one of many varieties of wood available for these headphones, all more beautiful than the others. https://kennerton.com/headphones

Comfort issue ? The Thror is 200 g lighter than the Odin Mk2 (480 g Vs 680 g) and is a major improvement for people sensitive to weight for cervical vertebrae: it is lighter than an Abyss; the weight is similar to Stax SR-009 and Focal Utopia.

This luxurious Kennerton Thror headphones (for the quality of the materials used: natural leather, aluminum, precious wood, carbon fiber) provides a very precise, fast, natural, airy sound, with a right tone (neutral); his listening is akin to the drink of clear, invigorating mountain water; not that of a sweet soda in appearance more attractive to taste, but in the long run more boring or tiring.

Compared to the Kennerton Odin mk2 giving a more dynamic sound, more colorful (more fun) and closer, the Thror gives a more precise sound, rigorous and more neutral (less colorful), more airy, with more hindsight (distance away) for the soundstage.
To give you an idea for the rendering the sound and the soundstage of the Kennerton Thror versus Odin mk2, by analogy to the image of a photograph of a mountain landscap, you can look at these two photographs below, the first picture in analogy to the Thror, the second image in analogy to the Odin mk2. Feel free to zoom in on these high definition images to see all the details.

Where can I find useful information on the Kennerton Thror?
Of course on Head-fi, above all on the Head-Fi general-purpose Thread talking about Kennerton products: the Odin, the Vali and the Magister; but also, that's new in this genral topic, the new flagship Kennerton Thror and the successor of the Odin mk2, the Kennerton Thridi. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new...bles-amps-from-fischer-at-ifa.732814/page-134
You will also find a lot of useful information about the Thror (and soon the Thridi) on the French forum about Kennerton products: https://musique-o-casque.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26&start=300
(note: use Google Translate, which works pretty well for non-French speakers).

Otherwise, English reviews begin to be published on the Kennerton Thror:
On Head-Fi, by earfonia: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/kennerton-thror.23048/reviews
and I think it soon by Headfonia: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new...bles-amps-from-fischer-at-ifa.732814/page-134

To conclude, the Kennerton Thror is a very great all-rounder headphones that we will hear more and more about, very probably in the top 3 of planar headphones TOTL, I tell you. :)

Hello, everyone.

Soon to come, an alternative "Pro" version of the Kennerton Thror, the Kennerton Thekk (alias Welcome One), cheaper than the flagship Thror, as well as a new version of the Kennerton Vali (more comfortable and better), as well as the rebirth of the original Kennerton Odin, with the vintage sound of the Odin mk2 that please so much, this time with a lighter headband and especially much more comfortable.

To be continued on Kennerton's generalist thread on head-fi on the next page.

I am not sure if this is the correct forum, if not could someone point me in the right direction please.

I have just purchased a Kennerton Thror direct from the factory. Vladimir gave me excellent service and when it transpired that the wood that I had chosen was not available he sent me photos of three alternatives. This is the one I chose originally:

And this is the one that is arriving soon:

I am lucky enough to have all three TOTL Headphones: The Abyss TC, Susvara and now the Thror. It will be an interesting comparison.

Congratulations.

Superb Thror; you will have completed your collection of TOTL headphones. :)

Another flavor for the sound, with a superb medium, natural, and a new color for the wood that does not have your other headphones!

Good morning, everyone.

I just discovered an excellent review, very complete, of the Kennerton Thror made by Jeff_jacko, in the HCFR test section (French forum).

https://www.homecinema-fr.com/test-hcfr-du-kennerton-thror-casque-planar-ouvert/

(Nb: you can use google translate very easily for non-French speakers)

I completely approve!

The "measures" section is also interesting to read, especially between the stock pads and the additional "Odin like" pads.

Have a good reading of this very good test.:)

PS: we ask for the same Jeff_jacko's test, but this time with the Kennerton Thekk ! (the Pro version of the Thror).

Good morning, everyone.

RAA measurements (artificial head)

20011110242623553816596550.jpg

Other Kennerton Thekk measurement (flat baffle).

For all those who would think that the Thekk lacks bass and extension in the sub-bass, here are my own measurements of the Kennerton Thekk versus the Thror and the Odin mk2, measured on the same measuring platform, a flat baffle consisting of the leather seat of my sofa and the use of a professional portable measuring microphone PHONIC PAA3: dynamic range: 30 to 90 dB SPL; each horizontal line corresponds to a sound level difference of 10 dB SPL (floor at 30 dB SPL).
The left-most vertical bar corresponds to the global SPL (all frequency) and reflects the difference in average sensitivity of the 3 headphones listened to on the same amplifier (pink noise) with the same volume position of the amplifier knob for the 3 headphones (Nb: the Odin being the headphone with the highest average measured sensitivity: 97.5 dB SPL; the Thror, having the lowest sensitivity measured: 93 db SPL).
The measurement trough at 6 KHz is probably a measurement artifact; on the other hand, the frequency peak around 9-10 KHz is well present.
To obtain a good seal of the pads on the measuring rod, I exerted a rather strong pressure on the pads, as you can see on the pictures.

EDIT: 3 new measurements of the same Kennerton headphones (Odin mk2/Thror/Thekk), with a pink noise level 10 dB SPL higher than in the first measurements above, to further improve the signal-to-noise ratio, especially in the sub-bass.
(NB: Measured frequencies: 20 Hz/25 Hz/31.5 Hz/40 Hz/50 Hz/63 Hz/80 Hz/100 Hz/125 Hz/160 Hz/200 Hz/250 Hz/315 Hz/400 Hz/500 Hz/ 630 Hz/ 800 Hz/ 1 Khz ... etc.).
