Well, long story short, my dad and I were given a pair of KEF 104/2. We took them on as a restoration project.
Unfortunatly, when we got them it seems that one of them must have fallen over at one point, dented in the dust cap and broke the cone of one of the drivers on the facia. So we explored our options. Buy a new driver, buy a new facia, fix it, or get it fixed.
I emailed KEF just to see, these are 30+ year old speakers after all.
They said yep, they can do a recone on the broken driver for $130. Yeah, sounds great, going back to KEF themselves to fix it for a decent price cheaper then sourcing a new 104/2 facia (not including shipping, and I found one for $200 at the time)
Each facia has 2 mid range woofer and a tweeter. It was only 1 midrange that was broken.
So, I shipped it to them for $47 CAD. I got it back a month later, and was billed $297 cad (230 usd). A far cry from the 130 quoted. Here's what came back:

They did both midrange for some reason, and it seems that a "recone" consisted of taking a pin to the dust cap (normal way of fixing it), gluing the surround back to the cone, and then painting it with plastidip.
So I really don't know much about speakers which is why I'm posting here 2 questions,
1: does the $297 CAD seem worth it?
2: that looks like a rather thick coating of plastidip. Will it change the sound?
(2 is a bigger deal, as the other speaker is original)
EDIT: I'll post pictures of the one that was broken when I can, you can clearly see where it was cracked
