So, I got the Karma when it first came out and I loved it, really loved it. Excellent battery life, great shape and just fantastic sound. Gapless was a new found love and since I have a ton of albums that were “flow through” so to speak, it was just great to hear them in original album/CD form. However, and there is always one, it was 20GB’s. My collection began to surpass that quickly, (all bought BTW) and I awaited the imminent 40 GB Karma or the rumored Chroma. Well soon enough it seemed that both were not coming (after many announcements and rumors). The new 4G Apple iPod was announced and I was luke warm about it, but it was 40G’s and so I bit the bait. Since I live in San Francisco, I got it pretty much hot off the press. I was caught up in the hype, I loved all the accessories etc and the sound had improved, I thought ( had bought a 2nd or 3rd gen iPod at some stage and thought the sound was lacking (returned it pretty promptly). I am the sort of person (need help) that just loves accessories, you make it for the gizmo that I just bought and I will buy it. I treated my iPod like bloody “Barbie”, it had/has collections of shi#$. Anyhoo, back to the story, so I got a very nice sound system for Christmas (thanks Santy) and was all hot to hook the iPod up to it, BUT, as usual it was dead! Yes, even if I leave it for a few days it runs out of juice. I had been listening to my new Creative Micro, so had been ignoring the iPod in the meantime. I remembered the Karma, which was in a drawer somewhere and hooked it up to the system and WOW, after three and a half months it was showing “Full Power”. I hooked it up to the new system and was in heaven. Gapless, (oh, how I missed it, you can practically pop a song into the gap between the iPod’s songs) I have been looking at the iPod like some sort of imposter since Christmas day and have been apologizing to the Karma for my disloyalty ever since. So, I would beg Rio to bring to market a 40GB player soon, call it what you want, pop it into any case you want, but keep gapless/fade-in, the great sound and also the battery life. Please.
P.S. also am annoyed by the way the iPod goes back to audible click if not used for a few days, or needs a lot of the settings redone. What a pita.
