Tonight I found my pair of Sony MDR-E829V earbuds, having layed unused for around 7 months or so ever since I got my MX500's. Like my MX500's, they had the RadioShack earpads on them. Although this wasn't the case when I first bought the MX500's, I am liking the 829V's a bit better. The bass is deeper and stronger and the high end extension is better. While the MX500's sound a bit dark, the 829V's are slightly bright. The soundstage is a bit wider on the MX500's, though. I was using both on my newly acquired iRiver IMP-350. The results were also good using my computer via my homebuilt amp. With it the bass was even better, and the soundstage improved some too. In a quiter environment the Koss KSC-50 sound slightly better, despite their sounding a bit distant. Basically I find them enjoyable to listen to, which is the most important thing for a portable set of headphones/earphones although I am still seeking something better for portable use. I didn't expect this for a pair of sub-$20 Sony earbuds, especially due to the crap Sony has been generating for the mass market for the past few years.
