I just got my used pair of Stax Lambda Nova Basic. I`m really excited, but I still havent used them because I`m away from home.

They seem like in very good condition from what I can tell, but the only thing thats wrong with them ( aesthetically) is that the foam on the inside of the earphone is degraded and. The foam layer right outside the the metal mesh feels like its becoming dry and crumbling off.

So I`m concerned it might crumble through the mesh and mess up something.

Here is a picture of the headphone and the foam.
Can you guys tell me if I can fix it by removing the foam or something .
Any ideas

Quite common for older/vintage Stax 'phones.
The foam have little (if any) impact on the sound, but may as you say crumble through the mesh into the transducers. So I say the safest bet is to carefully remove it.

By the way, a new fresh mesh comes as part of the earpads. So another option is to replace them..

Don't most 'stats have dust shields around the driver anyway? If they're intact, the only danger would be crumbling foam coming in contact with the dust shield, possibly tensioning it. I don't think the drivers themselves are in any danger.

But yes, carefully shake out any loose foamcrumbs.

Whoops, I Posted that In a RUSH!.
I still have a question!

How do I take apart the leather pads to get into the foam area so I can clean it out ?? ( this sounds like a dumb question...)
But the leather pads are attached by glue onto the frame. Is there another way to do this? As in, do they "snap" apart somewere or is there a trick?
Or
Do I just pull the leather pads with the glue out?
