Jumping ship from iPod to iRiver

Jan 25, 2006 at 6:34 AM Post #31 of 42
I jumped off the irver ship onto the ipod ship last year. I have many fond memories of my h120, it was a very good player. But it is like thinking of an ex girlfriend when you have a new love, some good memories, but the comparisions wear thin as the new bird is better and an improvement.

Why do people get all excited about file trees, in my opinion it is the most archaic way to find music, kind of like going to a libary to find a book your not quite sure about and then being led to the index files!!

Sounds quality is better (though i have better cans, and am more in the know on file types with my ipod, but then going back to the ex analogy, sex is better because we are better, if you get my meaning)

But at the end of the day it is a consumer item and about 'personal' preference, I am still on the fence of lossless files, abx'd gave me no audible differences. Rather spend the money on a good home amp, because at the end of the day nothing beats the sound of a good cd-amp-speaker combination.

These are fully compatible and you don't have to mess up with anything as you have to when replacing the original batterry with iPod's (1/2g) one- just put it in the place of the original battery. Dapstore.com used to have them, but most probably they are out of stock now. I'm hunting for these as well.

DapStore is no more.

Any other sources for this battery?

I intend to use the upcoming Shure E500 with this iRiver, and it reveals alot of the hiss.
And yes, I have A/B compared lossless vs. lossy. I prefer lossless. I'm not comparing the two with iPod earbuds or lower end cans for that matter.

rofl...I am using e3's and the hiss is only audible when no music is playing and cosidering all the eviromental noise It was of little concern to me. Lossless preferance over lossy. Learn to abx some time.

What's the advantage of the iPod's system?

Right now I have all my music organized first with a music directory, then a folder for each artist, and then a folder for each album the artist did. And this is perfectly useful, and if there's too many artists then you can make folders for each category etc.

Well, if you have correctly tagged tracks and a database that keeps track of said tabs, you can do a lot of nice stuff with things that rely on a database. Sorting for example, and "smart" playlists.

You can do all of that using Rockbox (+ a lot more). As K2Grey I find the file tree way more convenient and useful than database (tags). Database is also present when switching back to the original iRiver firmware; there is no such need for me, however.

Turner Brown found a battery here for his iRiver that he says is working so far:

I would much prefer the Ionity myself....and was planning on getting one soon...DRAT!

Yeah, it's been working great. I still can't get over how long the battery lasts. It's almost overkill. It shows 27 1/2 hours after a full charge. I've yet to bring the battery down past 14 hours remaining.

How thick is this 2200mAH 3.7V iPod battery? Was it a really tight fit?

If it was thicker than the stock battery...it wasn't by much. The case went back together without any force. I would say that it was a close fit...but not really too tight.
