Having heard what lossless FLAC files sound like out of an iRiver vs. higher bitrate VBR mp3's on an iPod, I decided to jump ship from using an iPod to the iRiver.
There are trade offs.
•The iRiver is a fashion faux paux, and just doesn't match hot pants.
•The interface is not as smooth and as easy to use as the iPod's.
•Analog output from Headphone jack has an annoying hiss that can be hear very easily with efficient IEM's.
•The iRiver is much thicker, hence they won't fit in hot pants. Therefore a new Head-Fi Utility Belt (HUB),a la Batman Utility Belt, will have to be constructed.
But what I gain is.
•Optical Digital Output to use as a portable transport at meets. (quite jittery, but better than nothing)
•The addition of a portable DAC/Amp for use with said Optical output, but will facilitate the construction of the HUB.
•Use one set of lossless files at home, and on the go. (will have to convert all my APE files to FLAC, which will take a few days.)
•Drag and drop! No more futzing with FooPod.
So, anyone else jump ship from iPod to iRiver? or vice versa?
