If you have to ask...

...then you're in the same boat as the rest of us.

What is the song Jumping Jack Flash really talking about?

It could be paraphrased as " it is somewhat amusing, old chap".

I would not presume to interpret JJF. Though it seems to me to be a somewhat over the top fictional biography of a man born during some kind of armed conflict who was brought up by a woman with poor dental hygiene and a facial hair problem and who does not really worry too much about his upbringing these days. A bit grand guignol if you ask me, but then you did ask.

Yeah, if you have to ask...

It's just rock man. You're better off asking if someone can actually be born in a cross-fire hurricane.

I think rough translation is: doggie style sex is fun

"jumping" is pretty universal slang word for sex, "jack flash" I am guessing means show your ass, but I could be wrong here.

It means that you have gas so badly that it makes you jump up and down while flashes of light are emitted from your bung hole.

Viva el burrito diablo!!

Some things I've heard are:

-Keith Richards' gardener, Jack Dyer, was making noise outside during the composition, and Richards made a comment referring to him as "Jack Flash."

-"Jumping Jack Flash" is supposedly a way of injecting heroin into the tear ducts.

-It may also be a reference to amphetamines. the Mods used to take all kinds of diet pills with funny little nicknames. Songwriters in particular found them useful for long sessions.

"It's a gas" is ancient slang for "it's a lot of fun". Don't the English use the word "flash" to describe bling-bling, or gratuitous conspicuous consumption? Like, "that's a very flash car" they would say about an Astin Martin. Or "he dresses very flash" as in he dresses very expensively in flashy clothes that are kind of gaudy. I always thought the song was kind of mocking some upper class twit trying to be a rocker...

"it's a gas" is easy to pin down, hciman77 and markl are right.

i remember one of the most hideous puns in musical history, the sex pistols' singing "belsen was a gas, sir" (that was malcom mclaren singing, i think - bergen-belsen was a nazi concentration camp)

as for
jumping jack:

1. A toy figure with jointed limbs that can be made to dance by pulling an attached string.
2. Sports A physical exercise performed by jumping to a position with the legs spread wide and the hands touching overhead and then returning to a position with the feet together and the arms at the sides.

but that doesn't REALLY explain it, does it?
