Go into the city a lot? Live in the city? Love vinyl records and jazz?
I have the location of heaven for you!
I just visited a store in NYC (236 W26th between 7th and 8th) called Jazz Record Center. I tell you guys, this store has a phenominal collection of VERY nice vinyl. The store contains over 60,000 LPs in its inventory, and every single vinyl record I stated, they had. Their prices were very fair. A brand new 180gram Filles De Killamenjaro was 14 dollars, and Cannonball Adderly's "Pyramid" in NM- condition was 6 dollars. These prices are unheard of in New York City! Sure, not the best around, but at least when you buy for prices lower than these online, you save on the shipping. And the owner is a very knowledgeable fellow who has many great frequent customers that really were very nice and even helped me get started on my search.
The vinyl is organized very neatly, in alphabetical order, and even splits the artists by record label. When I specifically looked for Adderly's "Pyramid", I just went to C. Adderly, and then to "Fantasy", which is the label it is published under. It couldn't have been simpler.
The owner puts a lot of trust in you and even allows you to handle the vinyl on your own if you wish to check the quality. Although, it appears that almost all of the vinyl he has is in top-knotch condition. He told me that he examines each and every one personally and in very great depth before allowing it to be put up for sale.
If you love jazz, love great people, and love vinyl, this is a highly recommended place to stop by. Just go to floor 8 and you will be treated to some of the best LP-buying you will ever experience within 50 miles of NYC.
They also have a website, which is great: http://www.jazzrecordcenter.com/
