You can play those 256Kbps DRM-free AAC files using Rockbox. But no luck playing those 128Kbps DRM protected AAC files.

In short, no. Rockbox will likely never support playback of Apple DRM encrypted audio files.

One option is to rip your iTunes to a CD and convert to M3 or other format of your choice. This chain of events add degredation of the music when making the conversion to CD and compressing to MP3, for example. Some folks don't have a problem with it, others do. If your Itunes are low bitrate o begin with, they may sound pretty bad after this process.

A better option is to test drive an app like TuneBite (TUNEBITE converts protected WMA, M4A, M4B, M4P, WMV, M4V. Converter MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, AC3, AU, MPEG4, MP4, AVI, 3GP, MOV, FLV ASF, DV, H.264, XVID, DIVX, 3IVX.). As the music plays in your PC, this is a nifty program records the music from your sound card. Since it is recording the audio stream from the card, it is not reproducing the DRM on the copy it is making. As far as I know, Apple has not sent a 'cease and desist' notification to RS Audials, as they have to other software developers that produced apps that strip out the DRM. Give it a try. I believe they still have a free trial period.
