i just picked up an isee case for my 5gb ipod today at the local apple store; anyone who is currently looking for a case for their ipod should get one right now. it is this good. i wasnt sure how good the fit would be for the 5gb model, but after i put the spacers inside and popped in the ipod, the fit was snug while giving a TINY bit of space between the ipod and the front plastic panel; enough to let it move back and forth a tiny bit, but i prefer it this way so i wont scuff up the front of the ipod when i slide on the front panel. also, the opening for the headphone jack is big enough to accomodate my sr60's, which is pretty large. the only problem ive had with is dust between the case and ipod, i need to get some electronics anti dust spray to get rid of this. does anyone know of some good anti dust spray? if so, where can i get it? but anyway, anyone who is looking at cases should DEFINITELY conisder this HARDcase.

djgustashaw, how would you compare the Isee's hard case with another case like the soft silicone Iskin? I'm currently in the market for a case for my 10 gig, and I've heard good reviews about each. Does anyone have an Iskin case that they could give some feedback on? TIA.

actually, fuse, i had the same question before i bought my isee today. i went to ipodlounge.com's forums and posted the same question you have, but no one ever replied (for the record, i dont really recommend using ipodlounge's forums at all... theyre absolutely nothing if you're used to busy places like head-fi). but i thought to myself and decided i really needed the hard case characteristics of the isee and the protection over the screen. the iskin, as you mentioned, is silicone, and ive heard it attracts dust very easily, and isnt easy at all to put into or take out of pockets. also, it has no screen protection, which i found to be a significant fault considering the ease of scratching the ipod's plastic. in short, i definitely recommend the isee, its not perfect but it is the best ipod case out there. my old case was an incase sleeve, you can read the review of it (and every other ipod case created...) at ipodlounge.com. i really didnt care for this case at all. it was definitely stylish, but the opening for the screen wasnt large enough and clipped and distorted the last line of text on the ipod, and dust was awful between the screen and case. also, it was pretty bulky. go for the isee!!

I have an iSee for my 20GB iPod. It's great for (1) letting you SEE your iPod

and (2) protecting the entire iPod ('cept the scrollwheel) from scratches (although it does scuff up the iPod a tiny bit where the cover slides on).

HOWEVER... the belt clip is horrible (a rep for the company told me point blank that it's a bad clip, and they only put it on there because people would have complained if they didn't); and the iSee offers NO shock protection at all.

In other words, the iSee is the best aesthetic case on the market, but one of the worst for active use and shock protection. For the latter, I highly recommend one of the neoprene cases, or the Waterfield case (www.sfbags.com).

While we're on the subject of Ipod care, does anyone know a good polishing agent for removing light scratches from the back of the Ipod? I know this has been talked about before, but I couldn't find the thread. Most of my light scratches came from using that not-so-great case that came with my 10 gig, that's part of the reason I'm getting a new case. Thanks again for the info comparing those two cases, I think I'm going to go with the Isee. Do you also think it's possible to get the case for under 30 bucks? I'm kind of semi-broke at the moment.

A friend and I bought ISee and we are both very dissapointed in them and stopped using them altogether in favor of those black things that come with iPods. We have 10G models and even with those small white rubber thingies they give you there's too much space left between iPod and rear/front. I had to insert some ugly stuff to have it firm. Also, access to some of the circular buttons is hard due to thickness of the front panel. And front panel doesn't lie completely flat either leaving a cheap unsecure feeling while pressing. And belt clip? I have been using iPod since October and 80% of the time it is on belt and is only out when I'm sitting down at work so the belt clip "performance" is one of the most important features of the case. So one time I had my iPod snap off as it rotated 90 degrees at which point it detached from belt clip and fell to the ground! Luckily I was just sitting into a chair so it fell on carpet from maybe 1/2 meter and it was turned off so there wasn't any damage. And to add insult to injury, we were charged all kinds of fees (partially a blame on manufacturer because they use couriers instead of regular mail) so total price was almost $60 Canadian. I'm just sticking to default stuff now. Yeah, it is scratched but what can you do. I bought it to use it, not to keep it on display. To be fair, belt clip on those black things can break too, another friend had hers snap after only two weeks, which suprised me as it really looked sturdy, but she claims it's only thin plastic where it matters. Anyhow they accepted it as a fault and sent her a new one since the old one broke so fast after purchase.
