Is this CDP any good?

It uses the popular DAC style of that time period: a 1-bit noise-shaping DAC (Panasonic and other brands called this "MASH"). While not as detailed and resolving as current DAC designs, 1-bit DACs have the advantage of a blacker background, and many people find them to be warm and musical, with a decent amount of low-level detail.

I have a Pioneer player from '94 that has their 1-bit DAC design and it sounds totally different from all of my other players. More bass / rolled-off highs, and less frequency extension. Sort of like listening to vinyl.

Hahah, well... Like listening to vinyl on an average turntable and phono preamp. Obviously more expensive vinyl equipment will get the sound closer to the frequency response of a digital system and beyond.

But you knew what I meant. It was just a simile.

Well, I like it because it makes The Doors and Phil Collins pretty accurate and is pretty clear.
Only thing I need now is a CD-RW... :P I am so used to playing all kinds of tracks on my computer, but this CDP sounds GREAT, a little better than the computer but will probably be a bigger difference with my SR-80s coming in.

Just using the stock Onkyo HTIB fronts right now and it sounds pretty good.

Probably going to get the popular Insignia bookshelfs when they go on sale.

BTW, Infinite, you have any more info on this player, all I could find was a bunch of eBay links, from Canada to German :eek;

There's one way to find out. Take it into a decent dealer and get him to dem it against some of the new kit that's out there.

I think CC still sell an Onkyo 6-disc CD changer. By all accounts, it's an excellent player. Try to A/B the Onkyo with your Panasonic.

Eh, I don't care to haul in my ole CDP and then ask to compare it :P If anything I will buy my sisters Sony 5-disc DVD/CD player (higher-end, and has a headphone output ^_^ and jog dial on the remote :P).
