Well, it plays a loud volume even when it's at the minimum. I get spikes when I tap the front of the chassis (volume control is in front). When turning the volume, I get echo or sometimes distortion. This all happens now and then but not often, maybe like 1 every 3 weeks. And this just suddenly happens.
Any ideas? Thanks

update: Now, when I insert my headphones (see signature), the music is blasting at full volume. This doesn't change when turning the knob to minimum.

I don't think so. I'm using star-grounding. This is tapped after bridged-rectifier and just before the caps going to the LM3XX regulators. According to the article, this is the best place to tap for ground.
