iRiver iMP-400 SlimX review

giving this thread a hearty bump. anyways...

i have a few questions for you iMP-400 owners. i'm thinking of getting one as a redbook CD player. i was wondering what functions are available without the remote. i see a little jog lever on the main unit. if it has the utilitarian play/stop/previous track/forward track and volume up/down, i would pick this up instead of the iMP-550.

besides, the red one looks really nice. thanks.

You can do almost nothing without the remote. You can start the CD, advance 1 track at a time and go back 1 track at a time. No volume adjustment at all. Remote is essential.

at loud volumes, for redbook, less than 3 hours.

unacceptable in my opinion.

the imp cannot NOT use it's antishock memory, so since cd is in cdda format which takes up a heck of a lot of space, the installed antishock memory has to be constantly cleared and refilled due to it's relatively small size. add this to the fact that the cd has to be kept spinning constantly as a result of this.. and well. <3 hours.

Yes, redbook battery life is very poor. Also, lately with scratched discs, my IMP-400 has been having trouble and skipping alot. It must be kept still. You should also look into the 500 and 550.
