Hey fellas this is my first post here.

I've heard that the 180t/190t has excellent sound quality in many of the reviews. My question is: how does this sound quality compare to a CD burnt from MP3 files that's being played in a portable CD player? (an "audio cd"; player doesn't have mp3 decoding)

I'm currently using some MX400's, Sportapros, and a $50 pair of Ministry of Sound Headphones. (a far cry from hi-fi)

PS. It's a Panasonic SL-CT489V.

Wait, are you talking about Redbook CD sound vs. compressed mp3 sound or mp3 cd vs. flash player mp3? If its a mp3 cd,, itll probab;y be the same...

I haven't listened to that panasonic CDP but given the quality of nowaydays PCDPs vs. the ifp180t I think it might very possibly sound better.
I've tried several PCDPs and the ifp180t beats them all.

Oh I'm talking about 192/256kbp mp3's burned as a redbook audio cd in Easy CD Creator 6 (not a data mp3 cd) VS. flash mp3.

Thanks for the info, Lisa.

What brands of CD players did you try?

I tried a Grundig. From the headphone out it sounded horrible. But users Plainsong and lini both like the model I tried. I think that that might be because they use the line out with an amp and I didn't. Or mine was defective in some way...

A model by Philips. Not bad but on neutral settings it sounded like it had bass boost and treble boost and the midrange suffered from that.

An iRiver ChromeX. Very much like the ifp-180 in sound but with my Grados the ChromeX sound a bit underpowered to the ifp.

An old sony 6 or 7 years old or something. Not a bad one but the iRiver is better.

Aiwa XP-EV500. European model. I Think US model is something with 501.
Decent player, the ChromeX is a bit better but sounds again a bit underpowered in comparison with Grados. The ifp has a stronger amp that solves that problem a bit.
