Hi,

One of my first posts so please, go easy on me :)

So when I plug my fostex HPP1 into my iPod via the provided LOD which is a 30 pin to usb it puts my rockboxed ipod into charge mode... I cant use it unless I use my FiiO L9 which plugs into the mini plug not the usb... Please help!

Cheers,

You'll need at least an iPod Classic for the HP-P1. Your iPod Video is NOT supported at all.

In case you decide to buy an iPod Classic, keep the original firmware or else it won't work with the HP-P1....

It works if I use my L9... Because that goes into the 3.5mm jack in the HPP1 but not the usb. This sucks... Am I just using the amp of the HPP1? Using this with another amp.

Yeah if you plug in the 3.5mm then you are only using the amp part of the HP-P1

Yeah you'll be double amping. Not much point to use the amp of the HP-P1 in this config. anyway..

I am not sure what you mean by "the latest rockbox ipod".

What if I am plugging it in with my amp? Will I be double amping it? And what is the latest rockbox ipod?

What is double amping anyway?

Like, what is the latest ipod thats supported by rockbox? I bought this HPP1 for nothing...

Double amping literally means amping the signal twice (signal going through 2 amplifiers). Amplifiers could be either internal or external. For example, if you feed the headphone out of the iPod into an amp, you are double-amping it (since iPod has an internal amplifier for the headphone output). Double amping doesn't always degrade sound quality.. if it sounds good to your ear...

All versions of iPod Classic are supported by Rockbox but the port is considered unstable (http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodClassicPort).

(Like I mentioned above, rockbox'd iPod Classic won't work with the DAC part of the HP-P1)

So if I use a LOD with the ipod it wont be double amping right?

And if I delete rockbox off of my ipod video then it will work? Or no?
Im sad the DAC doesnt work as I read its a great dac.

And can I use the DAC of the HPP1 with my computer?

Thanks!

The HP-P1 doesn't work with your iPod Video irregardless what firmware it has.

My comment about firmware only applies to the iPod Classic.

And no the DAC in HP-P1 only works with Apple devices.

iPod -> LOD -> HP-P1 won't be double amping

I think the best solution is to buy an iPod Classic. Or do you have any iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad? They will too work with the Fostex.

Oh right... Couldn't help but notice that the usb on the HPP1 is also on my computer haha figured, if it works with that then it should work on my computer but guess not. I will give my iphone 4s a go with it but I never thought a phone was great as a DAP because I have to store other things on it too. As of now, I am just trying the ipod video > Pico Slim via alo triple pipe. Sounds pretty good.

To use the amp of the HPP1, must I use the line out plug or the one next to the headphone plug? The LOD is "line out dock" so I figured why not the line out on the HPP1.

If you are using the DAC of the HP-P1, then it doesn't really matter which iDevice you are feeding it, they should all sound the same!

Yeah that's the plug you want to feed from the line-out of your DAP.

Enjoy!
