If the original dimensions haven't changed, I'd definitely recommend iSkin products. I've been using their stuff ever since I've owned an iPod (almost 3 years now), and I've been totally satisfied with their stuff....and I take my iPod everywhere

Here are my suggestions:

If you want ultimate protection, I'd suggest the iPod Armor: http://matias.ca/armor/index2.php.

I have one, and it protects the 4G better than any case I've seen or tried. The unfortunate thing about this model, and the reason I don't use it, is that its aluminum casing covers everything--including the screen and wheel. This is no longer the case with the 5G iPod Armor, as they have a clear screen and the wheel is accessible.

The case I'd recommend (and the one I use) if you want protection and accessibility is the Contour Showcase. It doesn't have the absolute protection as the iPod Armor, but it is just a shade under, while offering the accessibility to the iPod, which the iPod Armor does not do.

Here's their website: http://contourcase.com/showcase/showcase4g/

i have the invisible shield on my imodded ipod 60gb photo. the ipod is bulky already, and the invisible shield doesn't add any more bulk to it. it protects like no other!

I agree with sebascrub on his recommondation of iSkin products. My case is so old that I don't see it on their website. It also glows in the dark.

I recently bought an iFrogz case for my 5th gen and it looks good.

I have heard mixed reviews on the metal cases. Some people love them. Others say that their iPod gets scratched inside the metal case. I have never owned a metal case so I wouldn't know.

If you are using the iPod with an amp, I would suggest a GigaBag.

I don't care what case you buy. Get it in a case with screen protection right away. I own the same iPod you have. It is 2 years old and looks brand new.

I have a case on my 3g 40 gb iPod from the Vaja leather company. vajacases.com If you decide to look for a leather case, this is the best.

I've had it on since about a week after I got my iPod (12/03). I may have taken it out of the case a handful of times, to clean the case and check on the pod. Probably dropped it about 5-10 times around the house, exercising at the gym, etc. iPod still works flawlessly, looks great (like a 9/10). Only thing I've done is put a new battery in about 2 months ago.

Just bought one of the $189 refurbished iPod Photo 4g 60gb units from Small Dog Electronics (a special deal through dealmac.com). Already have ordered another Vaja case for it.

Yes.....they are expensive. Remember, they are handmade from high grade leather, when you order it. They look awesome (even customizable), very high quality fit n finish, and protect awesome. If I'm not mistaken, the case is plastic wrapped in leather on the outside and silk type lining on the inside. Has a plastic shield for the display, and now even a rubber protector for the control wheel.

Several Vaja cases reviewed on iPodlounge. This is the one I ordered (albeit in black).

After I posted, I thought I should have said something about the "bounce" factor. Get a case that will allow your iPod to take a few bounces! The thinner the case, the less bounce protection.

Yeah, several of those drops were about 2-3 feet onto a tile floor. The one critic'd part for the Vaja protection is the lack of protection around the top controls. Not much there. But, it'd almost have to be a squared, or straight down hit on the top for any damage, which isn't likely. The 'bulkiness' (if you want to call it that) around the top edges is pretty good protection.

FWIW, I have an iSkin for the 3g. Bought at the same time as the original Vaja case and iPod. I used it once for a day on the iPod. Since then, it's been a toy cell phone, a squeezie, a throw toy, a stretchie, and everything else that a toddler can think of. It's now being tested by her little sister, so I guess the silicone cases are pretty durable as well

No drop protection, imho.

Solid billet aluminum case in silver or now black allen screw your ipod right into the sucker it aint going nowhere. I WANT ONE!

PS I have a 3G Ipod Armour that will fit your ipod but it is the style that closes over the whole ipod (good protection but not like the one i decribed above). If you want I will sell $25.00 it's Like new.

I would recommend a clear hard plastic case. Which I personally use on my ipods. Protects most areas on the ipod from scratching and other things. Also if say by chance your ipod has a small fall to the ground it will help to prevent damage to it.
Not a big fan of those silicone skin cases since the material is like rubber, It grips so you have a hard time sliding it into your pocket or something.

It grips, so it is hard to fall out of your pocket.

I recommend the iSkin Evo2. I've had one on my 4G 20GB since day 1 and have never regretted it. I recently jumped on the 189 60gb photo deal and have already ordered a Evo2 to go with it. I will say that if you have the money, the Vaja case is also quite worth it.

After dropping my iPod 4G I am a firm believer in the Countour case. It is made with two levels of protection, Hard plastic everywhere with hard rubber on the edges. The only areas exposed are the top/bottom for your connections and the clickwheel. For the clickwheel I left the protective plastic that Apple shipped the iPod with. Or you could make your own. Here are a few pics.
