Hey guys. So after three long years of service, my iPod touch 2g's headphone jack is dying. I have to fiddle with the headphones to get sound to play out of both earcups, and it is not my cans. I tested the cans on my computer, working fine. Plugged my IEM's into my ipod, only one side works.

I like iTunes and the way I have it organizing my music. I don't really want to reorganize my library of 1500+ songs, but I will if I have to.

What would you guys recommend as a replacement for my iPod? I'm considering asking around campus for anyone who wants to offload a used ipod for cheap. I don't care too much about functionality aside from music playing, ability to eq, and play videos. I like my touch, but don't have the $200 to shell out for a new one (I'm saving for headphones instead

).

I had one problem with my iPod and that was that I had to constantly swap out songs. It was only 8gb, and i have at least 11gb of songs.

You could spend less than $50 and buy an LOD cable and a FiiO E6 for your current iPod and continue to use it,while saving money for your next player. As far as the next player, I have the Touch 4G and it is pretty nice.

I considered that, is the extra clunk worth it? I honestly need a pair of closed portable cans and a source that works. Using this broken ipod and grado sr80i's for a commute on the bus is killing me.

Grados as bus headphones....I couldn't even imagine.

(I have SR60i's)

They're my only pair of good cans, I desperately need something like the tma-1 or m80. I love my grado, but I'm scared they'll either break or a fellow bus passenger will get rather ticked off at me for using open cans in a bus. And now I also need a source, I'm getting sick of fidgeting with this headphone jack and it's only been a day.

Ipod touch 3rd gen can probably found at a good price right now. The fiio E6 and L1 cable is a good addition to the new ipod.
BTW, why dont you get some nice iems, cans are just not great when it comes to portability.

I'll take a look around amazon and see what I find.

IEM's such as? I happen to like cans better, mainly to eliminate that stuck in your head feeling and the general pain from inserting and removing iem's once you have a good seal.

Iems such as: Westone 2, Westone UM2, Westone 3, Westone UM3X, Westone 4, Shure se 535, Shure se 425. They all come with some sort of comply/shure olive tips that will probably not cause pain when inserting/removing. I thought the grados you have arent closed, doesnt outside (bus noise) interfere with your music? Iems provide good isolation from outside noise.

It does interfere, a lot. I just try to put up with it as much as possible and use medium-high volume to drown out whatever I can. However the cans I'm looking at buying are indeed closed and have decent isolation.

edit: after some thinking, I have three choices and a hypothesis about how this happened to begin with.

1. buy a used ipod classic 60/80gb and eat up a decent portion of my current headphone budget
2. buy a used ipod touch 16gb and eat up a decent portion of my current headphone budget
3. buy a LOD and the e5/e6 amp and eat a smaller portion of my current headphone budget

I don't mind waiting for my budget to go back up before ordering new headphones, but this is the problem... I think that because I walk around with my grado cans plugged into my ipod, the huge meaty straight jack has damaged the ipod to the point that it is now barely working.

Buy a used ipod classic off craigslist if you are in the us. You can get one for around 100.00

Already went and talked to a friend, bought a pretty nice condition 120gb black 6th gen ipod classic for 120. not a bad price, plus now I can have all my vieos and music in one spot instead of swapping 8gb of music per genre on a day to day basis.

I recommend the Cowon J3^^
I have a 32GB ($300), but I think a 8GB can be found for under $200 and 16GB for just above $200. The memory can also be expanded using a micro SD card, so the max memory would be 64GB (32GB + 32GB SD).
The equalizer on it is amazing, and the UI is extremely customizable.

To put music on it, you would just plug it in via USB and drag and drop the music into the music folder. I use iTunes to sort my music (I like the way it creates folders and organizes) and then just go to the organized folders and drag and drop~

If it's just the headphone connector, can't you go at the closest Apple Customer Care center to ask how much it would cost you to repair this? :o

I thought about that, but it's three years old. I don't have a warranty, its jailbroken and don't have a receipt.
