I know they are not exactly a convenient iPod dock (moreso active bookshelf speakers with an iPod dock) but the Aktimate Mini system is incredible. I auditioned it against the B&W Zepplin model twice the price and all I heard was mid-bass bloat out of the Zepplin, whereas the Aktimate has a really airy sound (Aided no doubt in being able to move the left and right speakers apart.)

If you do any hunting online, you'll see it gets rave reviews. I use mine as desktop speakers

I know that many of you would disagree here but I think that the Bose sound dock (cheaper one) is quite good. I have heard the B&Ws, JBLs, top model Altec Lansing, and some model of Klipsch. Bose's headphones are bad but I think that they actually did a good job on this one, the price/performance is good. For me, the bass aren't bloated like their headphones and the mids and hghs are rich and full. But in general for sound only, you can't beat the B&W (both models).

Remember when choosing these all-in-one dock, that a stereo recording seems more like a mono one due to its speaker placement. There are some dock with two separate speakers with a Ipod dock on one of them. I haven't tried them but it probably plays a mixer's effort better.
