I know from experience the full-sized iPods have a fuller, less digital sound than the current nano and the first gen shuffle sounded perhaps best amoung iPods through the headphones out and overall better than its follow up, but between the current gen nano and current gen shuffle which do members prefer on SQ? Considering taking advantage of the refurb deals right now for a secondary setup. Likely shuffle for $49 v. nano for $169.

I actually prefered the sound of the nano to the shuffle 1st gen, I always thought the had a little more detail myself. I haven't listened to the current gen shuffle, but their have been many complaints with hiss. I can can attest there is very little hiss in both generations of nanos, as with the different nanos I have the 1st gen and second and to me they sound the same, except the eq settings sound different on the 2nd gen- don't use them anyways

This is how they sound to my ears, shuffle 1st gen- very clean and great bass extension with eq. Nano - both gens, not as much bass , but better highs and detail with a good "Flat: sound. 5g good bass and wider soundstage, a tiny bit more hiss than the nanos.

I didn't get a chance to try a new shuffle yet but would like to. My go to unit is my 2nd gen 8 gig nano, it makes my ears very happy with E500s.

Neither gen of Shuffle has EQ capability, can you explain your comment?
