I'm about to get a new battery (mines packed in 9 months after I bought it

Is there a good improvement getting a 750mAH over a 550mAH? They'll both be 3.7V, and for the 3rd gen iPod.
I've seen the 750mAH for £32, but the 550mAH is £15.
Oh, the iPod will be amped by an SR-71 if that makes a difference.
Thanks

Just do the math, a 750 lasts considerably longer than 550. Not sure if it's worth the disproportionate price hike to you though--guess it depends on how long you need to run your iPod off of one charge.

But for a nine month machine why not use Apple's return polity

Apple will only replace it if it is holding a charge that is less than half the published spec.

I just replaced my 3g 30 gig's battery with the better of the two batteries you mention. I'm getting about 20% more charge than I did when my iPod was new. It was a little tough to get the case open, but after I started working my fingernail in to the gap, it didn't take long. (If you bite your nails, you can't change the battery on a 3g.)

Well, its just at the start of 10 months now, and holds 20mins to half an hour charge before dying on me. Thats with 320 kbps.
Its making me wonder if its better just to buy the improved battery, P&P to send the ipod back to apple must cost a bit anyway.

If you're ending up with file sizes over 7-8 megs per song, the iPod's caching doesn't work well, so I can understand how your battery would get a lot of use. The higher capacity battery would probably be the best for you. The other option would be to take the iPod to a local Apple store or authorized service station and have them service it. That would save you the postage.
