Awhile back I upgraded from an iPhone XR to a 13. Interestingly, the 13 doesn't sound quite as good as the XR.
Streaming Qobuz, the XR is has some layering and space. Even on airpods it can sound pretty good. Although the 13 sounds clear (nothing wrong per se), by comparison it is flatter, less layered, less extended, just less fun to listen to. The differences are consistent whether streaming over bluetooth or over the wired output. Of course, there is no internal dac and these differences carry through to any external dac.
I'm not expecting iPhones to necessarily overachieve in this area, but I was curious if anyone else has experienced any standouts (good or bad) across the versions.
