I have to repair an XLO termination. So, I thought why not
cut the 1 metre length to 1/2 m. in the process?
Theoretically, infinitesimal length should be best signal
transport, right?
& I got some "silver-bearing" solder from R.Shack--should
I use this for repair?

Good solder may help but good soldering is better. Make sure you firmly support the wire in the connector mechanically before soldering, the solder should cool and solidify without moving at all. Besides this immobile cooling providing a better electrical joint solder is a good electrical connector but not a good mechanical connector. If the joint isn't shiny, do it again (and again) until it is perfect.

I have Cardas "QuadEutectic" and WBT Silver and a couple of other rolls that you might find in electronics stores. I don't believe any sound different if used correctly. WBT is my favorite, for the way it shines and the way it wets the joints quickly.
