It seems bluegrass' popularity has been fading somewhat in recent years, with the great majority of artists being much older than in genres like rock. Thus it's great to see a group of young guys throwing it down and holding their own against anyone else around. They do great versions of traditional songs and have some real zingers of their own as well.

I've had their most recent (and widely available) CD, O.C.M.S. for a while now, but just today received Eutaw and Live, released in 2001 and 2003 respectively, from the online merchant that handles the band's merchandise sales. Just as I expected, these recordings are infused with just as much energy as O.C.M.S., and that's saying a lot. Old Crow is one of the most energetic and fun bands I've heard in a long time, and I can't get enough of their music.

You can listen to samples of the songs on O.C.M.S. on Amazon, and you can a sample from each of the other albums I mentioned at Old Crow's website. You can get Eutaw and Live here, as well as other band merchandise (I also got one of their t-shirts).

For those of you who already know Old Crow Medicine Show, could you recommend any other similar music (i.e., new, energetic bands putting real energy back into bluegrass, not old bluegrass standbys)?

Thanks all!

So I've heard. Judging by their past tours, it looks like (hopefully) they could perform in the Mid-Atlantic at some point this summer. If they do, I will definitely be there, no question!
