do i need a top hat for a RPi?

let me explain a bit. using a headless player such as MoOde with a RPi3 via its built in wifi should bypass the well known USB/Ethernet problem so allowing the use of an external USB DAC. the files will be stored local on the Micro SD card so no networking/streaming of any kind.

if the external DAC has built in jitter correction then i'm assuming that the RPI should be enough to use as a simple transport being controlled via headless player MoOde.

if so then why would i need a dedicated top hat DAC etc.etc?
