iCAN micro SE – (thanks to Meze - you guys are great!) Things are a rockin.

I used this so that I could turn just the SE off https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCTGHNK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Side note I would return the SE then buy this. I bought the emotiva and it has zero static plus it has a 50W headphone output so that you can literally set your headphones on fire if you wanted to LOL
https://www.amazon.com/Emotiva-Audi...e=UTF8&qid=1505750887&sr=8-3&keywords=emotiva

I am sorry to report that it is 50W for the binding posts at the back, NOT the headphone amp! While the headphone amp draws power from the main block, it is no different than any stereo receiver built in the last 50 years. I'd rather spend my cash on a vintage receiver TBH.

:confounded:

Incorrect it comes with jumpers you place on the resistors.

From my manual:
WARNING! WHEN JUMPERS ARE INSTALLED, THE FULL SPEAKER OUTPUT SIGNAL WILL BE
ROUTED TO THE FRONT PANEL HEADPHONE OUTPUT. This is equivalent to connecting your
headphones directly to the speaker outputs. While this is appropriate for driving low efficiency
planar headphones, and may even be used with ordinary low efficiency headphones,

EXTREME CAUTION should be used when adjusting the volume on the A-100 when these jumpers are in
place. EMOTIVA ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR HEADPHONES DAMAGED BY USING THIS OPTION!
ALWAYS DISCONNECT AC POWER CABLE FROM THE BASX A-100 BEFORE REMOVING COVER!

To configure the Direct High Power Headphone Mode on the BASX A-100, insert the included
jumpers over the header pins as shown in the diagram (we suggest using tweezers or needle
nosed pliers).

Basically i can drive any headphone i will ever buy or any headphone ever made plus speakers even though I have no interest in 50W speakers

Ok, guess it helps to read the manual and not just the specs. All I have to say is Christ Almighty!

Big thanks to the team at iFi Audio! Had a super busy month, but I've enjoyed having the iCan SE during my the last few weeks. While my written review has been up for a while, my Video Reviews are now also ready!

I love the sound on this thing but the transformer is a POS. I use my iCan SE sparingly and two of these damn transformers have kicked the bucket. The first one I didn't leave plugged in all the time and it lasted about 2 months. The second I left plugged in all the time and it lasted about 1 1/2 years. Anyone know of a good replacement?

We're sorry to hear that. Were these under warranty still?

Obviously the second one wasn't since your warranty is only 1 year.

For anyone else following this thread have you found a aftermarket transformer that works with this amp? Not going to spend $49 for another ifi one since they don't last.

Go on eBay or Amazon and find one that has the same specs as the iPower, or hop down to your local electronics store and pick one up. Your choices are near limitless.

I just purchased a used ICan micro SE but it did not come with a power supply. I'm going to buy a 15v power supply for the ICan, but can find no information on the polarity required. Is it tip positive or tip negative?

My iPower recently died. I use this:

It's great because it uses a standard grounded power cable (like those used for PCs) which helps get rid of EMI/RFI hum the iCAN SE picks up from the air.

Thanks for the info. That supply is tip positive. I assume you're not using it with a polarity reversing dongle?

The latest IPower on IFI's site says it's tip negative, so I was assuming the ICan might also be tip negative. I also have an Itube2, which came with a 15V tip positive power supply, plus a dongle that converts the tip to a right angle, but for all I know that dongle is also converting to tip negative. The older IPower available on Amazon says it comes with a polarity reversing dongle, all of which suggests the ICan/Itube2 are tip negative. But if yours is working with that power supply without a reversing dongle, then the ICan must be tip positive or indifferent to polarity.

Both iCan SE and iTube2 are interchangeable without the right angle adaptor. The iPower if bought stand-alone does in fact come with a polarity changer, but that is because the iPower isn't exclusive to iFi's Micro line rather a universal solution for noise suppression (I remember the old marketing from their old site design).

Just to agree with @technobear (for the 1001th time): center pin is positive :)
