Over the last year I've downsized/upgraded my a/v system to what I feel is end game..Listening to this combo, along with my Sundara has me seriously wondering how much I would have to spend to gain noticeable improvement...
I do know this much for sure...ANYONE on a tight budget, that wants reference level sound, can spend a LOT more $ & not come anywhere close to the performance of either of these gifts from the gods...

I saw eq profile in UAPP or NeutronMp or Wavelet app and agree that they match respond of SR1.
My simply mod got neutral responding already and none of eq need, or they make reduce in sound quality.
I have spend 3rd pairs of pad lifespan and the headphones degrade much in appearance, but sound.

Digging more.
Begining: pin hole mod (punch hole on front cover).
Today:
1) punch 9 hole on the back cover -> if hold the frame, bass tight and detail. Can feel vibration of frame even holding tight. If release the hands, muddy bass. Touching no feel of vibration.
2) open the back cover: bass rich, full and open with out need of hold the body frame of cans, highs is roll off to same stock sound or even less.
Touching frame or holding it does not feel any vibration.
I closed the back cover and glue pin holes

At last, I chose this way: fully open back cover with a high density foam plugged in the center holde of magnet.
Never undo. Never comback!
It also good looking that camera couldn't take in to pictures

Well I've spent the last couple days back & forth comparing the SR-1 with the Sundara...Alas I have to admit, apart from the Sundara's electrostatic like clarity & tonal neutrality the SR-1 is far superior..WAYYY bigger/deeper stage, better separation of imaging, not as tonally neutral as the Sundara but much better organic, very slightly warm tone matching my preferred voicing..Going to swap out the factory cable for a silver plated, single crystal copper cable & see if that will take that very slightly darkish aspect of the SR-1...

I use Whiplash Twau cable. Superb and use it with everything except the Sony R-10 and would like to use it with them but I am not going to mess with the R-10 drivers.

So many don't realize how good the SR series is. I have said it a number of times but I will use it often, over my other headphones because of the sound quality that they produce.

The change in sound is on the bass no more bleeding to mid, and it beat, decay very fast.
Got extreme flat from 1k to 5k. There is a slight gain at 6k then 7k is back to level.
Highs extend enough not lacking of airy.
Mid is still sweet and realistic. Woman voice sounds more real, w/o sh,s,x sibilance than hd800s but somehow there's feel of detail higher on hd800s (may be due to balance-bright FR).
SPL reduce (due to leakage of full open?) about 10 level/150 of volume dial.
I did not think ibasso still close the back on next models like below.

Final of my SR1 unit, it become completely difference.
.All part behind the magnet removed: plastic housing, gray papers
.All part infront of diaphragm removed: dust cover, plastic dome(¹), gray papers of chamber(²), pad(³).
(¹) replace by SUS304 wire mesh 200
(²)acoustic tuning by SUS304 mesh 200 multi layers.
(³)change to Kaldas Research pad for RR1 headphone model.

Now, it will remains at this form and I never do any thing more except replacement of pads when they are worn out.

The best all rounder of my headphones. It doesnt beat detail of Kaldas RR1, stage and comfort of hd800s, transience response and macro detail of Shure 1500... but this made-from-SR1 give me a thing: realistic of sound, the way my ears perceive it.

It come to an ending20240126_182807.jpg20240126_182657.jpg20240126_182926.jpg20240126_204619.jpg20240126_204622.jpg20240126_215801.jpg20240126_215643.jpg
I agree, the hyper detail etc. of many systems, headphones, is not real but it does draw a person to the music.

So with what you have done with the SR1, you feel it is true to the music without hyping it?

It has balance of low and highs, clean mid doesnt bleed of upper bass, enough detail. There's nothing draw my attention during listening but also nothing overly expose that I don’t want to, example piercing, harsh, grainy of treble, artifact...
Not to large stage as like hd800s sometimes make me feel a little bit need of pressure/ density, light hollow stage.
Not kind of smooth as stock unit. Smooth still remain a bit, zero sibilance, zero hot treble but very good balance.
I feel stock unit sounds too warm, beed and chocking bass, kind of early roll off ->actually I start tweaking sr1 since day 2 after arrival. Reason is I can not listen to piano notes reproduce by sr1(stock pad, stock cable).
I punch many holes on pad and acoustic chamber to ease the pressure.... (that time there's no perforated pad)

I feel it sounds just right, natural, ease to listening to but not coloring or smoothing much, none fatiguing....
