How do I rip my audio CDs into FLAC format?

I'm running Windows XP btw. Is there a way to do it from the Windows Media Player interface?

And once I have ripped my FLAC files, how do I convert them to Ogg Vorbis? Thanks.

There is so much information about this on the Internet already in the form of ripping guides, etc. that it probably would be most efficient to do some Googling on this subject.

For a start, it might help to narrow the software choices down to some known good ones, such as EAC, PlexTools Professional (if you have a Plextor drive), foobar2000, and dBpoweramp CD Ripper. All of these will let you rip directly to FLAC via plugins, etc. There are also many options available for transcoding FLAC to Ogg Vorbis, but I personally find foobar2000 to be the best (at least the most flexible) transcoding and library management tool.

Good luck.

Don't know about your first problem, but for your second, go to Options -> Settings and the Encoder tab. FLAC is the last option in the drop-down box. Use compression level 8 for sure.

I'm using CDex version 1.51. In the Options menu, there is no "Settings".

I did find a "Configure" button on the right-hand side of the app. And from the CDex configuration dialog, there is an Enconder tab. Within that tab there is a drop-down menu, but there is no FLAC option.

You need to download this dll according to some documentation I read about EAC. For EAC, you put it in the EAC install directory, C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy . I assume for CDex, put it in the CDex install directory.

ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll
