First off, I can't afford an amp. I've read around here that the line out has a built amp while the Hi-Res out is only line volume... I just tried the line out and there's still not much punch. By comparison, my horrid onboard sound could get so loud I couldn't stand it.

Honestly, I'd rather have a good bass response than super-high-res 24/96 sound. I'm willing to lose the special DAC - I can enjoy that at home with my Klipsch speakers

This is for my work computer anyway, it doesn't need to be ultra perfect.

Any tips? Even at max volume in winamp, max master volume, and max wave-out volume it's just sorta-loud with a light bass response.

If you are using Foobar, you could use "Equalizer" DSP plug-in and boost up the bass frequencies. Other programs have equalizers as well... that's the only other way to go...
