If your CD player has optical out, simply connect this to optical in of MD unit with an optical cable. Press "play" on CD, record on MD. It will automatically place track marks and give you the best possible copy. Pretty simple, actually. If you have a Sony deck and Sony CD, you can use synchro-record. One button does it all.
Hope this helps.
It is very simple. I use my DVD player, because it has an optical output and it is very easy. I haven't made compilations from CDs, but copying a whole CD is a piece of cake.
Yes, it's really very easy to make optical digital copies. Just make sure you have a CD player with an optical out, which is increasingly hard to find these days. Surprisingly, I've found optical outs more often on OLDER units than newer models!
You can still make good MD copies of CDs through analog cables, usually mini-mini interconnects. Sometimes the track marks won't be duplicated, though, which is a minimal inconvenience. As far as quality goes, you'll be able to tell the difference between an optical copy and an analog copy through a good pair of headphones in a quiet room if you listen hard, but for most portable applications, the difference is too small to matter a great deal.
I tend to use NetMD if I'm in a rush, full quality takes about 40mins for a 74min CD, which is perfectly acceptable. LP2 is loads faster to rip and transfer as well... If i'm not bothered for time, optical out it is!
