Right now i have a Sony D-EJ621 and I want to upgrade. I want this upgrade because the 855 has an optical out. I would use this for my MD player. (I know some of you guys love these things
I havent heard this, but I have the big brother so to speak; the 955. It sounds very decent from the line out, but the head phone out is not that great even though it seems to mate well with my Senn 497.
If you are just looking for a digital out, you could check the 721. Last time I checked it was around $80, so it may be a bit cheaper.
I have an 855 and it is good for making digital copies to MD, but that's about all i use it for. The line out isn't half-bad, but the headphone out is pretty wretched, but still useable.
All in all, it's a nice little player. For me it's a nice balance of size, features and price.
I don't have any D66's to try it with. It's listenable with my Q55's, but i much prefer my MD player for portable listening and a standalone CDP at home, so i haven't spent much time with it.
